Our policy is to interfere as little as possible with your enjoyment of this self-guided tour, but at the same time your safety is of prime concern to us, and we have a number of safety procedures in place, which are intended to ensure that everything works smoothly, or in the very rare cases that it does not we can provide the necessary support. To ensure that all goes according to plan, we just need you to cooperate with one or two safety measures.
First we try to meet all participants at the start of their holiday. In the case of the Heart of Lakeland and Cross Lakes Ramble the meeting would normally take place on the first evening in Windermere, but sometimes in the morning before you leave Windermere or on an evening in Coniston. In the case of Just Walk it would be at the accommodation in Grasmere. The purpose of meeting is simply to check that you have all the information and documentation you need, and to answer any questions you may have. If you have any questions about equipment, clothing, weather or the difficulty of the various walks, this is the time to raise them.
If participants have a mobile phone, we ask you to let us have the number, so that we can attempt to contact you while out walking if we need to for any reason. You are welcome to contact us any time, but PLEASE NOTE that in some valleys of the Lake District mobile phone reception is limited or unavailable.
Luggage transfers are carried out by taxi or minibus, so that it is always possible to travel with the luggage. This is an important safety measure, because the weather in the Lake District can occasionally be atrocious even in mid-summer, and we want participants to have an alternative to walking on the really bad days. There is no charge for travelling with the luggage, but you would have to be prepared to fit in with the driver’s schedule. If you want to be picked up at a specific time, we can book a private taxi for you and you can settle the fare directly with the driver.
